Annika: Do you consider the area you live in to be vegan friendly?
Felicia: Yes. It seems there’s a new vegan restaurant opening in NYC weekly. There are a still a few on my list I haven’t gotten to yet!
Annika: What kind of work do you do?
Felicia: I’m an actor. Primarily a commercial actor, but I do some television shows, print ads, and voice overs. I also run two animal-focused charities.
Annika: Did motherhood have any influence on your vegan outlook?
Felicia: Just after the birth of my second child I went vegetarian. Both of my girls went vegetarian on their own, at their own time. Both around 5 years old.
Annika: How old are your children and are they vegan?
Felicia: 8 & 10. My younger daughter was the first in our family to go vegan, almost a year ago. I had been wanting to do it for years – but didn’t think I could. Never knew it could be so easy, and so rewarding – but I definitely appreciate that my whole family is in it together.
Annika: Is your child pediatrician very vegan friendly? Did they express any specific concerns?
Felicia: Yes, She’s vegetarian and is pretty knowledgeable about veganism. For example, she pointed out we should be drinking soy milk instead of almond for the protein (don’t worry, she’s not one of those proteinaholics!)
Annika: How do you navigate situations like your children attending peer’s parties where there may be non vegan food?
Felicia: I actually have told them to do what they are comfortable with. At first I suggested – if the party only has pizza, take the cheese off and bring it home for our dog. But my kids are stricter than I am – and just won’t do it. So now I pack them food and vegan cake. There are always kids with allergies doing the same thing, so its no big deal.
Annika: Favorite meals to make for your family?
Felicia: Favorite to MAKE or to EAT?! My kids & I love to make tofu scrambles, my husband & I love to make this complex rice and beans dish together – but our favorite to eat is mac & cheese and vegan tacos. Oh, and chocolate mousse, and kale chips, and quinoa bowls… and BLTs… and smoothies… I could go on…
Thank You Felicia!
