“We believe that in the UK there are currently no other publications offering such an extensive range of vegan recipes, and we are keen to establish ourselves as a valuable source of delicious, simple recipes for vegans, and for those who are interested in a vegan diet!”

Founded by Anthem Publishing Ltd. and based in Bath, UK, Vegan Food & Living is a print and digital publication first released in late December 2015.

Why was Vegan Food & Living founded? What inspired its establishment?

We already publish a number of food magazines, two of which are tailored to those on ‘restrictive’ diets, such as those with coeliac disease, or those on a dairy, gluten or sugar-free diet, so were well placed to offer a magazine tailored specifically to vegans.

We had been receiving more and more requests for dairy-free and vegan recipes in our magazine over the last year, and as a vegan myself, I had also noticed not only was there more demand for vegan products and recipes, but that people’s attitudes towards veganism were also changing. With celebrities such as Beyonce and Liam Hemsworth promoting the benefits of a vegan diet, and Leonardo DiCaprio raising awareness of animals rights, we found there was a whole new wave of vegans looking for delicious, simple vegan recipes, so we decided to create a new magazine to cater to this rapdily growing market.

Does Vegan Food & Living utilize social media for any specific reasons? If so, what social media platforms are preferred and why?

We currently use Facebook to both drive readers towards our website, but also to enter into a dialogue with them. It’s a great way to connect with them, to see what they like, what they don’t like, and what’s popular at the moment too. This helps us to make sure our content is relevant and interesting. We also use Instagram to reach a younger audience, and Twitter too!

Is Vegan Food & Living monthly, bimonthly, quarterly or other?

At the moment it is quarterly as we have only just launched, however we hope to be able to offer the magazine on a bimonthly, possibly even monthly, basis in the near future.

What themes does Vegan Food & Living cover?

We largely focus on recipes, with our USP being that each issue comes with 101 delicious recipes. However we also have informative features too, focusing on current trends in the vegan world, myths surrounding veganism and vegan foods, and also vegan products.

With rising interest in veganism and vegetarianism, the landscape of vegan publications, print and digital is growing as well. Where do you see Vegan Food & Living within this landscape?

Veganism is a relatively new ‘trend’ in the UK, having already hit the mainstream in countries like the US and AUS. We believe that in the UK there are currently no other publications offering such an extensive range of vegan recipes, and we are keen to establish ourselves as a valuable source of delicious, simple recipes for vegans, and for those who are interested in a vegan diet!

What needs and desires does Vegan Food & Living satisfy for its readership?

Our reader’s have told us they are delighted to find a publication with such a wide range of vegan recipes, the majority of which are made using inexpensive, simple-to-find ingredients, something they felt was lacking in other vegan publications.
